Byard, a retired Mott College English instructor and high school English teacher, columnist for The County Press, and former Lapeer Community Schools school board trustee, recently released her crime novel set in West Michigan. Her book Devil in the Dunes is a whodunnit located in a sleepy northern Michigan beach town — the fictional Harbor Cove. The book will transport readers to Traverse City, Leland, Empire, Mackinac Island, the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes and Lake Michigan beaches — even a raging storm off North Manitou Island. The book is a mystery focused on love, hope and redemption. It also reveals how selfish, hateful choices can affect an entire community.
